Vintersol (Winter Sun) – Mackmyra Distillery
More than a few weeks back.. I’m ashamed to say, I was sent a little sample from the lovely folks at Mackmyra. This was Vintersol (Winter Sun) which is a single malt Swedish Whisky.
I was given a sample of this to try at the weekend by Alex (Mackmyra) and thought that a whisky festival would be the perfect place to find a comfy sofa and give this a little attention… so that’s exactly what I did!!
Bottled at 46.1% this whisky was finished in port wine casks.
The nose was lovely and it had an inviting spiciness to it, with lovely fruit and a light scent of vanilla. There was a slight pepperiness which sat well against the fruit. There was an almost pastry hint to this too, alongside some ginger.
Its palate was warm with ginger spice, the peppery warmth was welcome after a cold wet day… the warming nature of the whisky was also slightly dry. The dried fruit that you detected on the nose translated to a lovely flavourful experience. A little cherry too.
Many thanks to Alex and Mackmyra for this sample and the opportunity to try this.
