That Boutique-y Whisky Company | Three Ships 6 Year Old – Batch 1

Dram Good Club

Remember I said that “time would tell if they all delight my senses”? That Boutique-y Whisky Company | Säntis 10 Year Old – Batch 1 well spank my arse and call me Sarah!!

The Whisky

The little treat in question was the 6 year old Three Ships Batch 1 – 53.7% abv (£77.95 from Master of Malt), from the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington (South Africa.) That Boutique-y Whisky Company, you did a good thing releasing this… but I guess you know that?

I do love the labels on That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles (cue a game of ‘spot the difference’) and the label for this release features the lovely (can I say that?) Andy Watts (master distiller), if you have had the pleasure of meeting Andy I am sure you’ll agree!

My Thoughts

This whisky was matured in American oak casks and finished off in a PX cask.

You might know how much I enjoy a whisky that entices me… you can have it sitting next to you, or in your hand and the aromas from the glass just start to draw you in, this is one of them. It is very fragrant with the merest hint of spice, with soft dark sugar. There was a nice scent of worn leather in the background. Loads of sticky dark fruit…this was whispering “take me!!”…

So I did.

On the palate, a nice full mouthfeel and ooh it’s spicy. The dark fruits might be like a lovely freshly made thick jam play on the tongue alongside a sip of bitter black tea. The spice really warming the mouth, and there’s a little vanilla and bitter dark chocolate…and some morello cherry too.

The finish gives a lovely warmth as you swallow, the sweetness and spice then slowly slips away….Yum!!

Many thanks to That Boutique-y Whisky Company / Atom Brands et al. for the sample and opportunity to try this.

Slàinte!
